The Toronto Blue Jays could be looking to make a splash around the trade deadline to upgrade their rotation. They have officially extended their championship window by extending Vladimir Guerrero Jr., but they may want to capitalize on this potentially being his last season with Bo Bichette.
Bichette will be a free agent after the season. Regardless of how good Bichette and Guerrero can be for the Blue Jays’ offense, the Blue Jays will need to have an elite rotation to make the postseason and then make a run. ClutchPoints’ Joey Mistretta proposed this blockbuster trade to bring Sandy Alcántara from the Miami Marlins to Toronto:
- Blue Jays receive: right-handed pitcher Sandy Acántara
- Marlins receive: right-handed pitcher Trey Yesavage (No.2 prospect), outfielder Alan Roden (No.5 prospect) and third baseman/outfielder Charlie McAdoo (No.13 prospect)
Alcántara won the Cy Young Award in 2022 but struggled in 2023. He missed all of 2024 but now figures to be a hot name near the trade deadline. He signed a five-year, $56 million extension in 2021, with a $21 million club option for 2027. His club control will only drive up his asking price.
“It is never an easy decision to trade three prospects, especially when two of them are top five prospects in your organization,” wrote Mistretta. “The Blue Jays, however, would benefit without question from adding Alcantara. If Toronto is willing to embrace a win-now mindset, this is a trade that must be seriously considered. Toronto’s current pitching rotation is fine, albeit far from spectacular.”

Adding Alcántara to a rotation with Kevin Gausman, José Berríos and Chris Bassitt would be a great move. Not to mention Max Scherzer, who is currently on the injured list.
The Marlins are poised to become sellers, and Alcántara should be one of the biggest names traded at this year’s trade deadline.
