The Toronto Blue Jays are all of a sudden playing much better baseball lately. They are 7-3 in their last 10 games and are now tied for second place in the American League East.
They have stuck hovering around .500 and are still 32-29, but are looking much better as of late.
Still, that hasn’t stopped speculation that they made trade a player or two at the deadline. Shortstop Bo Bichette is a candidate to be moved, as he is the final year of his contract.
With Vladimir Guerrero Jr. having already been extended, Chad Jennings of The Athletic notes that Bichette could shape the trade deadline.
“It’s taken a recent surge to get above .500, and their playoff odds are 43.1 percent, which is close to a season high. If the Blue Jays fall behind again, they’ll have to at least consider trading one of their cornerstone players. Starter Chris Bassitt and reliever Chad Green are also performing well in a walk year, but it’s Bichette who stands out as a key piece of a supposed-to-be-transcendent core who might instead become trade fodder on the way to yet another disappointing season,” Jennings wrote.

Bichette is hitting .275/.321/.430 with seven home runs, 33 RBI and a .752 OPS. However, the chances of him remaining in Toronto past 2025 are slim to none, especially with Guerrero having already been extended.
But the two-time All-Star could be an attractive trade piece if the Blue Jays can’t sustain their success and fall out of contention this summer.
They are only 5 1/2 games back of the first place New York Yankees, but it’s fair to wonder if they might consider shopping Bichette.
He could bring back a solid haul of prospects and set the Blue Jays up well for 2026 and beyond.
If the opportunity arises to trade him, then it might make sense for them to take it instead of wasting it like the Los Angeles Angels did with Shohei Ohtani back in 2023.
It will be interesting to see if the Blue Jays consider this.
