Blockbuster trade idea lands Orioles promising young Dodgers hurler

The Baltimore Orioles suffered some big losses this past offseason. Perhaps the biggest one was Corbin Burnes.

Burnes was acquired before spring training in 2024 and helped guide the Orioles back to the postseason, but ultimately signed a new contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

While Baltimore signed Charlie Morton and Tomoyuki Sugano, they still don’t have an ace.

However, a blockbuster trade idea was floated around by Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report. This potential trade would land them Bobby Miller from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for No. 4 prospect Vance Honeycutt.

“The Orioles weren’t uninterested in replacing Corbin Burnes after he left to join the Arizona Diamondbacks. They were connected to legitimate aces throughout the winter, from Dylan Cease to Luis Castillo,” Rymer wrote.

“Miller’s stock nose-dived in 2024, as he was sidelined by a shoulder issue in April and never really recovered. He’s now on the outside looking in at the Dodgers’ rotation, whereas he’d have a spot waiting for him in Baltimore.”

Miller put together a strong 2023 season, going 11-4 with a 3.76 ERA in 22 starts. However, he posted an 8.52 ERA with the Dodgers last season.

The key will be for him to stay healthy. While he isn’t an established ace just yet, he could reach that point, and Baltimore needs a top-level pitcher that they can build around and have under contract for multiple years.

The 25-year-old is not a free agent until 2030, so the Orioles would have him under contract for at least the next five years, and they would have time to see if they can develop him into an ace.

The Orioles need pitching and already have a lot of position player prospects, so this hypothetical trade would help them add to their roster but also clear out a logjam.

We’ll see if they decide to pull the trigger on this deal.
