Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills decided to change it up this summer.
For the first time, Allen didn’t play a single snap in the preseason.
That became official Saturday night as Buffalo wrapped up its three-game preseason slate with a game at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Allen, like he had for the first two contests, spent this one on the sideline watching.
The preseason finale was also watched by QBs Nos. 2 and 3, Mitchell Trubisky and Mike White. Shane Buchele played the whole contest at quarterback for Buffalo.

It’s a change in approach for the Bills, who decided that Allen can get the work he needs on the practice field while trying to ensure his health for the long season ahead.
Allen is coming off his first MVP award, and now he’s trying to get the Bills to the Super Bowl.
He’s already historic. He has put up 40-plus total touchdowns in each of the past five seasons, the longest such streak in league history, per Saturday night’s CBS broadcast.
Now, Allen will try and finally get over the last hurdle. The Bills haven’t yet reached a Super Bowl with Allen, let alone won it. Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have been their kryptonite in the postseason.

Allen’s usage rate in the preseason probably has no direct correlation with what happens in January.
But the Bills did the simple bit to ensure Allen is healthy and fresh when Week 1 arrives. From there, it’s up to Josh and his teammates to chase down that elusive Lombardi Trophy.
Buffalo made a change this preseason to try and create the best chance to get across the finish line this season.
And now, the regular season is up next, and it’s time for Allen and the Bills to prove they belong on the field until the very end of the 2025 NFL season.
