Josh Allen is knocking on the door.
Each year, ESPN polls executives, scouts and coaches for an annual ranking of the NFL’s best quarterbacks. And each year, the Buffalo Bills’ superstar moves higher up the list.
In the new rankings unveiled Monday, Allen checks in at the No. 2 spot.
The only guy ahead of him? Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes.
The pair have blossomed into one of the NFL’s top rivalries, except Bills fans would prefer a few more of their wins over the Chiefs to be in the postseason. So far, it’s been Buffalo-dominant in the regular season and Kansas City-dominant in the postseason.
But Allen’s continued improvement has given Bills Mafia increased hope of finally slaying the Mahomes giant.
“He’s done everything,” an NFC personnel executive told ESPN. “He’s answered every test. He makes less mistakes and takes care of the ball. Only thing left to do is win it all.”

According to ESPN, Mahomes’ grip on this top spot has weakened in the past year. Things won’t get easier, either.
With Allen, Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson holding the next three spots on the list, the AFC is loaded for years to come.
“Other guys played great,” an NFC executive who voted Mahomes fourth told ESPN. “He took a little step back based off the last few seasons. I don’t expect it to last.”
This won’t be the last Allen-Mahomes battle.
And if the Bills can get the best of the Chiefs come January, there may be one more Allen hurdle to go when this list comes out next year.
