Bills’ Frank Gore Jr., Jimmy Ciarlo, Shane Buchele get good news after tough day for Hard Knocks favorites

The Buffalo Bills had to make some tough decisions on Tuesday’s NFL roster cutdown day.

That included cutting both Frank Gore Jr. and Jimmy Ciarlo, two players with cool stories who had become fan favorites in part to this summer’s Hard Knocks show.

But that duo got positive news on Wednesday: They’re two of the 16 guys who have been signed to the Bills’ practice squad.

The Bills announced the whole list on Wednesday afternoon. It also includes QB Shane Buchele, who was awesome in the preseason finale.

Gore, the son of a 49ers legend with the same name who ran for 16,000 NFL yards, was a preseason star. He was the only player in the league to have both 100 rushing yards and 100 receiving yards this month.

Ciarlo is a linebacker out of Army, a player that Hard Knocks has displayed coaches referring to as either “Army” or “West Point,” an undrafted dreamer just trying to make an NFL roster who spends impressively long hours in the facility trying to get better.

He was hurt in the preseason in 2024 with the Jets, and this summer was his next chance to prove he belonged.

Buchele will be the third quarterback in the organization, behind 53-man roster guys Josh Allen and Mitchell Trubisky.

These are players still trying to make their NFL dreams into reality. The practice squad isn’t reality, but it’s a chance each and every day to show work ethic and talent, and so none of these players will take anything for granted.
