The Buffalo Bills put on pads for the first time on Monday.
And on a 90-degree day in the sunshine in upstate New York, one player found himself hurting.
Offensive lineman Mike Edwards, who weighs in at 363 pounds, collapsed near the sideline while talking with those around him.
The Democrat & Chronicle’s Ryan Miller described the scene like this:
The 6-foot-5, 363-pounder, who is the heaviest player on the roster, fell face-down shirtless onto the turf and remained on the ground as athletic trainers responded. Edwards was coughing and heaving but did not vomit.
Athletic trainers brought a cart onto the field. Fellow tackle Ryan Van Demark hurried to assist, helping apply ice and cold towels to Edwards’ body before Edwards was helped to his feet. Van Demark and medical staff guided Edwards into the medical tent.

Edwards was an undrafted free agent following the 2024 draft. He spent the season on the Bills’ practice squad.
The lineman began his college career at Wake Forest but found his success at Campbell, where he was a two-time FCS All-American for the Camels.
Edwards is seeking to prove again that he belongs at least on the practice squad and maybe more in his second season with the Bills.
