Beyoncé Bowl’ Ravens-Texans Christmas halftime show earns Emmy Award

Beyoncé is one step closer to EGOT status after capturing her first Emmy Award, courtesy of her star-powered halftime performance during the NFL’s Ravens-Texans Christmas Day doubleheader. The electrifying show, broadcast live from Houston’s NRG Stadium, saw Beyoncé perform before her hometown crowd of more than 60,000 fans and an unprecedented 27 million viewers streaming on Netflix, setting a new record as the most-streamed NFL event in history.

The Grammy-winning icon showcased tracks from her country album “Cowboy Carter” and was joined by her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, in a memorable celebration of music and family on the field. Despite her haul of over 30 Grammy Awards, Beyoncé had never won an Emmy—until now. The win brings her halfway to EGOT status, the rare honor achieved by winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.

The NFL’s appetite for chart-topping artists during halftime continues to shape pop culture, with rapper Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl LIX show also achieving multiple Emmy nominations, including outstanding variety special (live), outstanding directing, outstanding music direction, and outstanding choreography.

Whether the league will keep pursuing music superstars in upcoming seasons is still unknown. Some critics contend that the production value of the Christmas halftime event rivaled that of a Super Bowl show—a debate now left to fans and social commentators.
