The Cincinnati Bengals avoided disaster and defeated the Cleveland Browns in Week 1 to finally star off a season on the right foot. This came after another offseason of negotiations going nowhere with Trey Hendrickson until the 11th hour. The Florida Atlantic product had a big game, getting a sack against the Browns in the win. However, it was a very realistic possibility that Hendrickson could have played elsewhere in 2025.
Per Ian Rapoport, the Bengals nearly traded the star pass rusher to the Green Bay Packers prior to Green Bay landing Micah Parsons.
“The Packers are among the teams that called and engaged the most with Cincinnati on a potential trade for Hendrickson this offseason, with an initial offer made for last season’s sack leader,” Rapoport writes. “In fact, standout defensive tackle Kenny Clark would also have been involved in the trade had the two sides come to an agreement, though Green Bay was not willing to part with him at that point in the process. Based on Clark’s value to Green Bay — and based on Cincy driving a hard bargain due to how they never really wanted to trade Hendrickson — the deal never happened.”
Luckily for the Bengals, they got a deal done with Hendrickson and got the win in Week 1 over the Browns to start 1-0 for the first time since 2021.
