Bengals’ former star Tyler Boyd wants to sign with AFC North rival in $2.2 million contract update

Tyler Boyd spent nine eight seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals before his 2024 stint with the Tennessee Titans.

Now, Boyd wants to return to the AFC North, but not for the Bengals.

Boyd wants to play for the Steelers, according to Pittsburgh Sports Now.

Considering Boyd is from Pittsburgh and played for Pitt, this makes a lot more sense than it would otherwise.

“You know, all my family is here,” Boyd told PSN. “I’d be able to have the majority of them be able to support me.”

Boyd knows Steelers coach Mike Tomlin well.

“I’m real cool with [coach Mike] Tomlin,” Boyd said. “He’s always been a good person. . . . When I was at Pitt, we had a good relationship. After practice, I’d walk over there, talk to [Antonio Brown] and those guys, talk to Tomlin, and he’d just pick at different things, where I could get better and get some guidance. I think we had a great friendship.”

The Steelers have DK Metcalf as their No. 1 WR for Aaron Rodgers, but there’s uncertainty beyond that after they traded away George Pickens.

Calvin Austin, Roman Wilson and Robert Woods are among the others on the depth chart.

Boyd has long been an effective slot wideout, so he could be a good plug-and-play option for Pittsburgh for sure.

Spotrac projects that Boyd will get a $2.2 million contract. That shouldn’t be a big issue for the Steelers, who really need another wide receiver.
