Tempers boiled over at Citi Field on Sunday when Mets slugger Mark Vientos took a 90 mph changeup from Miami ace Sandy Alcantara off his leg in the seventh inning. The Marlins were cruising with a 5-0 lead when the pitch sparked an exchange that quickly turned the afternoon into chaos.

Vientos locked eyes with Alcantara as he walked to first, refusing to let the moment pass quietly. The two jawed at each other, and within seconds, both dugouts and bullpens poured onto the field. Players and coaches swarmed the infield, shouting and shoving, but umpires managed to settle things before the scene spiraled further.

No one was tossed, though warnings went out to both sides. For Vientos, it capped a frustrating day at the plate, having already struck out earlier in the game.
Brandon Nimmo, who had already been irritated after being quick-pitched by Alcantara earlier, didn’t hesitate to join the fray. Pete Alonso was right behind him, making sure his teammates weren’t standing alone.
In the end, the skirmish added fuel to divisional rivals. The Marlins eventually went on to win the game 5-1. Alcantara pitched seven innings and allowed just four hits and a single run. He struck out six and walked just one.
