The Chicago Bears wide receiver room should be one of the strengths of the team in 2025. However, adding more playmakers to help out second-year quarterback Caleb Williams is always a good move.
SportsGrid’s Grant White predicts Chicago will hit the free agency market and sign Tyler Boyd to bolster the depth in the position group behind D.J. Moore, Rome Odunze, and Luther Burden.
Boyd had a disappointing 2024 campaign, as he tallied just 390 yards in 16 games with the Tennessee Titans and failed to find the end zone. The veteran playmaker is no longer a dynamic receiving option, but he can still serve as a savvy veteran security blanket for a young quarterback, which fits what the Bears need.
Adding Boyd would inject some more experience into the receiver room and also give Williams another potential receiving threat. Though Boyd struggled in 2024, it would’ve been hard for any receiver to flourish in the Titans’ offense last year, as the quarterback play in Tennessee was historically bad.
During his eight-year tenure with the Cincinnati Bengals, Boyd established himself as one of the better slot receivers in football and posted five straight seasons with over 700 receiving yards. The Pittsburgh product could find that form again in Ben Johnson’s offense in Chicago.
Additionally, Boyd should be cheap to sign. Spotrac projects the 30-year-old receiver will land a one-year deal worth around $2.2 million. The Bears have $14.7 million in cap space, so signing Boyd to a team-friendly contract to finish off the wide receiver group would be a logical move.
