The Chicago Bears shocked the NFL world during the 2025 NFL Draft when they selected Michigan tight end Colston Loveland with their first overall pick.
A majority of NFL analysts thought Penn State’s tight end Tyler Warren would be the first tight end off the board, but the Bears thought Loveland would fit their offense better.
Loveland helped Michigan win a national championship in 2023, and now he will try to help the Bears win their second Super Bowl in franchise history.
With training camp right around the corner, Gene Chamberlain from Bears On SI thinks Loveland is a “player to watch during training camp.”
“Unlike Burden, Loveland was able to at least get on the field for stretching and some individual work at times early as he rehabbed after shoulder surgery. He was present and at least going through mental reps in the offseason. Loveland’s role will be just as big as Burden’s in the attack as their move tight end, a position frequently targeted in Johnson’s Lions attack,” Chamberlain wrote. While they didn’t draft Loveland to block, he will also need to do this at times and his skills here will be closely watched.”

Loveland appeared in 39 games with Michigan, recording 1,466 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns.
Loveland should be able to take over as the No. 1 tight end on the Bears and could have a significant role on the offense.
