Bayern Munich will face their biggest test of the 2025/26 season when they will host Inter Milan in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals on April 9 at the Allianz Arena.
There’s a lot of hype surround the game between two former Champions League winners. But in recent times, Inter Milan look to more formidable team on paper courtesy of Bayern’s long injury list for this fixture.
However, ahead of the crucial match, Joshua Kimmich downplayed the ‘underdogs’ tag as he spoke to FCInternews right after Bayern’s 3-1 win over Augsburg in the Bundesliga.
The Bavarians can miss as many as seven players for this crucial fixture against the Nerazzurri. Hence, fans are already calling this tie in favour of Simone Inzaghi’s men. However, Kimmich isn’t ready to accept the underdogs tag just yet.
Bayern and Inter are currently leaders in their domestic leagues and have proven talents in their respective departments.
The Germans are known for their attacking gameplay, while Inter have been great defensively, especially in the Champions League this season.

What Kimmich said Bayern vs. Inter UCL clash?
The Bavarians skipper said he was not sure if they start the tie as ‘underdogs’ against Inter Milan. But he highlighted that the Nerazzurri traditionally defend well but Bayern have enough in their arsenal to break any defense in the world.
“I haven’t seen much of Inter this season,” Kimmich admitted.“I think that they’ve traditionally defended well. And you can see that in the Champions League, where they’ve only conceded two goals.”
“Of course, today [on Friday] we faced an opponent who we also knew had not conceded many goals in recent matches,” Kimmich added after the Augsburg win. “But we still scored three against them.”
“St. Pauli also haven’t conceded many goals,” the 30-year-old pointed out. “And we scored against them. We know that we can score against any defense in the world.”
The German giants have one of the most potent attacking lineups in Europe at the moment. However, they recently lost Jamal Musiala due to a hamstring injury, which has significantly taken the sheen off their attack.
But the likes of Harry Kane, Michael, Olise, Leroy Sane, and others will look to make their mark in the German’s absence.
Overall, in terms of numbers (as per Statmuse), Bayern Munich have scored 81 goals in the 2024/25 campaign. They have netted the second-most goals this season in Europe’s top five leagues.
The Bavarians are only two goals behind leaders FC Barcelona (83). Meanwhile, Inter are fifth in the goals tally with 69 goals.
