Bayern Munich are desperately looking to make substantial changes to their squad as Vincent Kompany aims to take the Bavarians to their former glory, especially in European competitions.
However, to facilitate big signings, Bayern Munich will be forced to offload some of their players. Leroy Sane has already left for Galatasaray on a free transfer, while Mathys Tel has joined Tottenham permanently following his loan stint with the North London outfit.
The 20-year-old was a mid-season loan signing for the Lilywhites, and while he only scored three goals in 20 games, the club sees long-term potential in him.
Following Bayern Munich’s 10-0 thumping of Auckland City in their opening fixture of the FIFA Club World Cup, midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic spoke about Tel’s departure.
The 21-year-old midfielder is a close friend of Tel’s, and his departure has impacted him. “Personally, I think it’s a pity. He was a very good friend of mine and still is. In the end, he and the club made the decision. That’s unfortunately how it is,” Pavlovic told Sky Sports journalist Kerry Hau.
Pavlovic and Tel have maintained a close friendship as both players battled their way into the first team. While Pavlovic still managed to impress the Bayern Munich management, Tel failed to do so, and was sent out on loan and eventually offloaded.

How much did Bayern Munich earn from Tel exit?
The Bavarians had initially agreed on a loan deal with the option to buy for the 20-year-old. However, Spurs were required to pay €45m [$52m] to exercise that clause to secure his services, but they were not ready to pay so much.
So both the clubs returned to the negotiating table and the Bavarians allowed him to join the Premier League side for €35m [$40m], plus the €10m [$11.5m] Spurs had already paid for his loan.
The Bavarians have struck a profit for the French forward, who joined the German champions for €20m [$23m] from Ligue 1 outfit Rennes.
He featured in 83 games for Bayern with 16 goals over three seasons in Germany. However, Tel never managed to cement his spot in the starting XI.
The Frenchman was given opportunities to lead the attack as a No. 9, and was later tried at left-wing, but apart from some flashy moves and sporadic goals, he failed to leave a long-lasting mark.
