Bayern Munich set to extend youngster’s contract amid interest from Real Madrid

Bayern Munich haven’t done a lot of business in the summer transfer window as they have only signed three players with Luis Diaz being the only big money deal.

So, if the German champions decide to not pursue any more signings this summer, then Vincent Kompany will be forced to use the academy graduates in more important roles.

The Belgian has not shown much trust in the academy players last season as he hardly gave them a handful of minutes in the Club World Cup in United States.

This saw talented youngster Adam Aznou push for a move out of Bavaria as he eventually moved to Everton.

However, Bayern aren’t treating all of their academy players in a similar fashion as the likes of Lennart Karl, Paul Wanner, Jonah Kusi-Asare are expected to play squad roles in the 2025/26 season.

Therefore, according to reports via Fabrizio Romano, Bayern Munich are close to renewing Karl’s contract. The 17-year-old will be offered a deal until 2028 and then a longer deal is also in place for the Germans which will be signed once he turns 18.

Later, reports from Sky Germany suggested that the teenage sensation, who had a great last season for the Bayern U17 team, garnered interest from Real Madrid and Ajax but he decided to fight for his place in Bavaria.

The 17-year-old winger and his agent, Michael Ballack rejected all advances from other clubs as he felt happy in Bavaria and also had trust in the management’s plans.

What does Lennart Karl’s contract renewal mean for Bayern Munich?

Since then, Karl has made a name for himself at Sabener Strasse as he made his debut in the Club World Cup and has also been named in Bayern Munich’s first team for the 2025/26 season.

Several reports in Germany have suggested that Kompany sees him as a backup option for Michael Olise, who was arguably Bayern Munich’s best player from the last campaign.

Kompany will look to manage his workload in the upcoming season which may allow Karl to get sporadic opportunities.

However, the teenager has shown enough mettle to earn the trust of Bayern’s hierarchy, and he reinstated his capabilities with a sensational goal against Tottenham on Thursday in a preseason friendly.

Karl is a very gifted talent who has a penchant of exceptional traits starting from his great vision, passing range, dribbling and ability to find the target from long range.

He proved his prowess in his 23-minute stint off the bench against Spurs and scored an excellent goal from outside the box. He saw a stray ball near the penalty box and wrapped his foot around the ball, nestling it into the top corner.

Overall, Karl has proven himself multiple times that he belongs to this level and now it is up to Kompany to extract the best out of the 17-year-old winger.
