Bayern Munich set new FIFA record at Club World Cup opener

Bayern Munich started their FIFA Club World Cup campaign in impressive via a massive 10-0 win over Auckland City on June 15 at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Auckland City are a non-professional side from New Zealand – and the only amateur team in the Club World Cup – which includes a total of 32 clubs from across the world. However, they were simply swept aside in their first match of the competition.

Following the match, Bayern star Michael Olise – who netted a hattrick – was asked by DAZN if he felt bad for Auckland City, to which the 23-year-old responded with a smile, and said,

“Nope. No,” as per GOAL.

With this huge win, Bayern Munich also set a new FIFA record, as Vincent Kompnay looks to make an impact in the tournament.

What new record did Bayern Munich set at the Club World Cup?

Even with the consideration that the two sides were not evenly matche, Bayern’s result against Auckland City still set a new benchmark at the final whistle.

The victory marks to be the largest losing margin ever in a senior men’s tournament hosted by FIFA, as per ESPN Global Research.

Prior to this, Al Hilal’s 6-1 loss to Al Jazeera back in 2002, was the largest margin of defeat in the history of the Club World Cup, which was first contested in 2000.

Bayern are pitted up against Argentine club, Boca Juniors next in the Club World Cup, on June 20. Auckland City, meanwhile, will face Portuguese club Benfica in their second match of the competition.
