As Liverpool close in on a deal for Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz, the Reds could lose another star, with Bayern Munich lining up a transfer move.
Germany international Wirtz is set to join the list of players leaving Bayer Leverkusen this summer with Xabi Alonso heading back to Real Madrid.
Wirtz’s clubmate Jeremie Frimpong is on the verge of joining Arne Slot’s Premier League champions as the Dutch coach looks to secure a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Bayern Munich have reportedly admitted defeat in their push to sign Wirtz – with the 22-year-old preferring a switch to Anfield – and they could now go for a current Liverpool attacker.
Wirtz’s arrival on Merseyside will force a tactical tweak from Slot, with exits also expected, as he aims to move on Darwin Nunez – and potentially Diogo Jota – in the months ahead.
As per reports from the Daily Mirror, Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany is plotting an offer for Cody Gakpo, with the former PSV Eindhoven attacker another name that could lose out by Wirtz’s move to Merseyside.

Cody Gakpo to Bayern Munich: Liverpool contract, transfer value, stats
Gakpo was a key part of Slot’s first season at Liverpool, racking up 25 goal contributions across 49 games in all competitions, but the club are exploring all options to fund the Wirtz deal.
Leverkusen are confident of securing £100m [$135m] as part of an upfront fee with a further £25m [$34m] in performance-related add-ons split across his contract.
Gakpo’s current contract at Anfield runs until 2028 and Liverpool will demand around £75m [$101m] to consider a shock sale.
Slot is not actively looking to sell the 26-year-old, but his transfer value is higher than Nunez, Jota and Luis Diaz, and that could impact the club’s thinking.
If Liverpool block interest in Gakpo, Bayern Munich could still look to raid the Premier League, with Brighton & Hove Albion winger Kaoru Mitoma also on their radar.
