Bayern Munich outcast closes in on a Premier League return

It has been a frustrating summer transfer window for Bayern Munich, who have struggled to get deals done.

While they are still pushing for a couple of signings, the Bavarians also have a long list of players who could be shown the door out of the Allianz.

One player in the list could be Joao Palhinha, who doesn’t seem to fit into Vincent Kompany’s system and could be sold this summer.

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur have been monitoring Palhinha and are actively looking to bring the 30-year-old back to the Premier League.

It is reported that the Portugal international is open to returning to the Premier League and therefore personal terms could be relatively straightforward for Spurs.

But Bayern want a permanent transfer rather than a loan for the 30-year-old defensive midfielder.

Palhinha, who moved to Bavaria last summer, recently shared his desire to stay at Bayern Munich and also made a vow to improve his performances.

However, it seems like the team management aren’t too convinced of Palhinha, and that could lead to his departure this summer.

What is Bayern Munich’s asking fee for Joao Palhinha?

If Palhinha’s journey with Bayern Munich ends this summer, then the Portuguese midfielder is in the reckoning to be one of the biggest recent transfer disappointments.

The former Fulham man came to Bavaria for a whopping €51m ($59.6m), and though his performances hardly justified that fee, Bayern are now looking to cut their losses.

The Bavarians are ready to sell the 30-year-old for anything around €25m ($29.4m), half of what they paid to Fulham.

Tottenham are reportedly keen on Palhinha as Thomas Frank believes that he would be a perfect fit as a defensive midfielder in his system.

Palhinha featured in only 24 matches last season for Bayern Munich and was mostly used as a backup option in midfield, as he failed to break into Kompany’s starting XI.

A return to the Premier League would be the best for all three parties as Palhinha will be in familiar surroundings. Bayern will cut losses, and Spurs will get a reliable midfielder.
