Bayern Munich outbound star Thomas Muller unfazed on future amid MLS interest

Bayern Munich legend Thomas Muller is gearing up play at the FIFA Club World Cup as the team start training Orlando ahead of their opening game against Auckland City on June 15.

This will be his last dance with the Bavarians, as he’s set to leave the club with his contract running out this summer. Muller’s been at the club for 25 years but the Bayern management opted to not offer him an extension.

Muller has been reduced to a bench role under Vincent Kompany, so the club felt there was little point in paying him astronomic wages as a back up player.

However, Muller’s next destination is undecided as there’s some interest from Major League Soccer clubs. There is reported links to Los Angeles FC – a partner club of Bayern Munich. However fresh reports from BILD suggest LAFC’s recent offer is below Muller’s expectation and talks have been paused.

The report also suggests LAFC have to significantly improve their offer if they want to land the German icon, with other MLS clubs in the mix, but Bayern Munich are supporting a move to Los Angeles.

LAFC have sent representatives to Munich to share their plans, but Muller was unconvinced, and the 35-year-old will now delay a decision.

What did Muller say about his future?

Currently, Muller is fully focused on his Club World Cup duty. He’s keen to leave a positive mark in his last few weeks with the club. So, when asked about his future, the forward is keeping his options open.

“I’m completely relaxed about it,” Muller told to a group of journalists in Orlando. “Even if something happens during the tournament regarding my professional future, It distract me. I’m constantly thinking about my future, especially in the short-term. And that’s here at the Club World Cup, that’s my main focus”

“Maybe you [journalists] will know before me, like last time [about not being offered a new Bayern contract]”

Suddenly, the Club World Cup is of great significance for the Bavarians as it will be the last time Muller will be in action in their club colours and several reports have suggested the Bayern board are looking to make money from the tournament to fund transfers this summer.
