Bayern Munich hand significant role to academy star following preseason heroics

Bayern Munich haven’t had the best transfer window until now and with multiple holes in their roster, manager Vincent Kompany is forced to look towards academy graduates for backup roles.

The Bavarians have made only three notable signings this summer where they signed Tom Bischof and Jonathan Tah on free transfers while they secured the signature of Luis Diaz after paying a premium to Liverpool.

However, Bayern are now looking for a replacement for Kingsley Coman who is on his way to Saudi Arabia and will be joining Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr.

The German champions have already promoted Lennart Karl, who has signed a new contract and is seen as a backup for Michael Olise on the right flank.

Similarly as per reports via Sky Sports journalist Kerry Hau, Bayern Munich are also looking to promote Jonah Kusi-Asare to their senior team as a backup striker for Harry Kane following his exceptional performances in preseason.

As per several sources, Bayern are also looking to extend the teenager’s contract, one that expires in 2026.

The Bavarians are reportedly blocking all loan deals for the Swedish striker, who has scored against Tottenham Hotspur and Grasshoppers in consecutive preseason friendlies.

Kusi-Asare combined with fellow academy graduate Karl to score the second goal for Bayern against Grasshoppers in a 2-1 win for the Bavarians.

Who is Bayern Munich starlet Jonah Kusi-Asare?

Kusi-Asare is a Swedish striker of Ghanaian descent who has been one of the sought after names for Bayern Munich’s junior team and now his performances in preseason have given Kompany enough evidence that the youngster is ready to feature as Kane’s backup.

Kusi-Asare was with AIK Stockholm before moving to Bayern and since his AIK days he has been compared to Alexander Isak.

The strike turned 18 in July and is already a 6ft5in forward who uses his physical prowess to dominate defenders in the final third, he is also known for his off-the-ball movement, link-up play and exceptional athleticism.

The early signs in preseason are great and Bayern hierarchy believe he has that ‘X’ factor in him to warrant a spot in the senior team albeit in a backup role to Kane.

The Swede will look to learn from the experienced Englishman, who is easily one of the best strikers in the world right now.

Kusi-Asare will look to make the best of this opportunity at Bayern Munich as he tries his best to establish himself in Kompany’s plans in the upcoming season.

With the Bavarians still pursuing a move for Christopher Nkunku and Nick Woltemade, it remains to be seen how Kusi-Asare fits into the gameplan.

Overall, it is an encouraging sign for Kompany and Bayern Munich academy graduates who are striving every day to make a place in the senior team.
