Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany breaks silence on squad depth issues

Bayern Munich have had a frustrating transfer window as they could only secure three new signings whilst allowing around 12 players to leave the club on various terms.

Vincent Kompany helped the Bavarians reclaim the Bundesliga title from Bayer Leverkusen and one expected that the Belgian manager would get even more backing in the transfer window but that’s not been the case for the German champions.

They have only added Luis Diaz, Tom Bischof and Jonathan Tah to their roster despite selling or releasing crucial first team players like Thomas Muller, Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sane.

When they released such big names, fans expected more fireworks from the Bavarians in the transfer market, but they are reportedly only looking for players on loan.

Ahead of their Bundesliga clash against Augsburg, Kompany was asked about the squad depth, and the Belgian handled the situation tactfully in front of the media.

“My role is to make the lineup and try to bring energy to the team for each game,” Kompany told the media ahead of Augsburg clash. We’re always communicating internally. It’s important that we do our work calmly and not make a lot of noise publicly. The guys who will be there tomorrow have the capacity to win. That’s the most important thing for the next 24 hours.”

What are Bayern Munich chiefs doing to address the squad depth issues?

Bayern Munich are reportedly pushing for a loan move for Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson, who has been identified as a viable option to play as Harry Kane’s backup.

While the deal is close to completion, it will be interesting to see the final terms of the deal and whether Chelsea manage to add an obligation clause for the Senegalese in his loan contract.

Also, Bayern have reportedly agreed to cover his full salary whilst paying a €15m ($17.5m) loan fee for the former Villarreal striker.

Interestingly, the German giants are also looking to sign another player before the transfer window shuts, and Chelsea youngster Tyrique George is on their radar.

However, Bayern are only looking for loan deals and Chelsea are only entertaining a permanent move for the 19-year-old.

Apart from academy graduate Lennart Karl, Kompany doesn’t have a proper backup for Michael Olise, who was one of Bayern’s best players last season. So, an injury to the France international could put their season on jeopardy.
