Bayern legend Thomas Muller set for LAFC transfer thanks to Adidas lifeline

Thomas Muller might be swapping Bavarian beer for California sunshine.

The Bayern Munich legend is reportedly closing in on a move to LAFC — and it’s not just the Major League Soccer club doing the heavy lifting. Sportswear giant Adidas could play a key role in sealing the deal.

Muller, now 35, is a free agent this summer after 25 years at Bayern. While LAFC wants him, their wallet isn’t quite deep enough to meet the German’s salary expectations.

That’s where Adidas, who have long been part of both Muller’s and Bayern’s journey, could jump in to make this American dream a reality.

According to reports (via BILD), Adidas is considering boosting Muller’s personal contract if he makes the MLS move.

That extra cash would help cover the gap between LAFC’s offer and what Muller is asking. Adidas spokesman Oliver Bruggen didn’t give much away, saying, “Adidas does not comment on contract negotiations in public.”

Why LAFC and not anyone else for Thomas Muller?

The MLS is no stranger to aging European stars, but Muller isn’t shopping around. Despite interest from clubs like Philadelphia Union, FC Cincinnati, and even Japan’s Vissel Kobe, his heart is set on LAFC.

The Los Angeles club also shares a partnership with Bayern through the “Red & Gold Football” project — making Muller a perfect bridge between both brands.

Bayern, who still view Muller as a valuable figure, are reportedly pushing for the deal too. If it goes through, Muller could serve as a Bayern ambassador in the U.S., boosting both the club and Adidas in the American market — especially with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon.

Muller is currently in the U.S. with Bayern for the Club World Cup. After that, the next chapter could begin with some palm trees, Hollywood lights, and a black-and-gold kit.
