You wouldn’t know it by the 1-0 scoreline, but Barcelona pummeled Mallorca at home to go seven points clear at the top of La Liga with just five matches left in the season.
Dani Olmo was the only one to find the back of the net, as Mallorca goalkeeper Leo Roman produced a sensational performance, but Barcelona probably deserved more as they unleashed 40 shots, putting 13 on target.
Hansi Flick rotated his side heavily, with the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid looming this weekend, but it didn’t matter as Olmo, Ansu Fati, and Ferran Torres were dangerous, with Lamine Yamal strutting his stuff as well and Raphinha having an impact off the bench.
Yet Olmo’s goal just 41 seconds into the second half was all they could put past the nearly impeccable Roman, who made several world-class saves in a highlight-reel performance.
The win opened up a significant gap at the top of the table, leaving Real Madrid needing to win on Wednesday at Getafe if they wish to stay in the hunt. Then comes the weekend’s Copa del Rey final, which will be hotly contested as Barcelona push for the first part of a potential treble.

Barcelona vs. Mallorca live updates, highlights from La Liga
FULLTIME: Barcelona 1-0 Mallorca
Barcelona deserved far more than just the lone strike, but they won’t care as the three points is theirs thanks to Dani Olmo’s early second-half goal.
Mallorca were unable to prevent the deluge of Barcelona chances, and only Leo Roman’s stellar performance kept this from being far more embarrassing.
85th min: Chance, Barcelona! WOW! WHAT A SAVE!!!! Leo Roman does it again after a shot from the left takes a wicked deflection sending the ball perfectly towards the top-right corner, but the Mallorca goalkeeper makes a sensational diving stop to palm the ball away!
Frenkie de Jong will come on for a late introduction, replacing Lamine Yamal. For Mallorca, Omar Mascarell is replaced by Jan Salas and Abdon Prats takes over for Cyle Larin.
84th min: Chance, Barcelona! Pau Victor rifles a right-footed effort on goal in some space, but Leo Roman is again up to the task and parries it away!
81st min: Mallorca make another two substitutions as Johan Mojica is replaced by Toni Lato and Valery Fernandez enters in place of Antonio Sanchez in midfield.
78th min: Chance, Barcelona! The hosts know they’re in front and can work calmly and without panic, and they have done that over the last 10 minutes or so.
Lamine Yamal finally gets through past the offside trap and is clean through on goal, but can’t figure out whether to shoot or round the goalkeeper, and Leo Roman gets the better of him!
Pau Victor replaces Ferran Torres, who is needed for the Copa del Rey final, while Gerard Martin comes on for Hector Fort at left-back.
64th min: Ferran Torres goes down trying to get on the end of a one-two, but the defender will get the benefit of the doubt on that kind of play every single time. He’s trying to squeeze through two defenders to reach the vertical ball, but can’t get through and goes to ground.
Shortly after, Mallorca make their first change as Samu comes off and is replaced by young striker Marc Domenech, knowing they have to find a way back on the scoresheet at this point.
62nd min: Ansu Fati got the start, but he will be withdrawn after an hour as Raphinha comes on to replace him. Dani Olmo the goal scorer also comes off, with Fermin Lopez brought on.
55th min: Chance, Mallorca! Ronald Araujo fouls Cyle Larin on the left flank, giving Mallorca a set-piece opportunity. The deep ball in front of goal is perfectly placed on a platter at the far post, but the header by Antonio Raillo is put wide of the woodwork and out of harm’s way!
That’s a free header, it should have resulted in a better effort on target! That’s officially Mallorca’s first shot of the game, as the Morey chance late in the first half was ruled out for offside.
Dani Olmo is the man to break the deadlock, as he gets the ball from Eric Garcia on the right and squeezes it right between two defenders and past the goalkeeper across the face of goal and inside the far post. The shot had just enough height to get over the leg of the defender who tried for the block!
The goal comes just 41 seconds after the whistle opened up the second half!

2nd half kickoff: No changes for either side as they get the second half under way. Mallorca played well in spurts and did excellently to provide a threat on the counter, but they coughed up way too many chances in front of goal to survive at 0-0 for too long.
HALFTIME: Barcelona 0-0 Mallorca
The halftime whistle goes with no stoppage time played, and the hosts are level despite absolutely pummeling their opponents through the first 45 minutes. In fact, they could be trailing if not for a whisker-tight offside decision which is what kept former Barcelona youth product Mateu Morey from collecting his first-ever professional goal.
Leo Roman has been absolutely stellar in goal, but Mallorca will know they can’t concede this many good chances to Barcelona if they wish to get something out of this match.
45th min: Chance, Mallorca! The visitors have the ball in the net but the flag is up for offside! Right-back Mateu Morey breaks down his flank, and receives a ball just past the halfway line past the extremely high Barcelona defensive push, and he finishes past Wojciech Szczesny!
However, the flag goes up on the feed, and a very quick semi-automated offside decision confirms the referee’s call! On replay, it sure does look like Morey’s on, but play continues as if the decision has come from the technology to continue the match!
41st min: Chance, Barcelona! No fewer than FOUR shots from Barcelona are turned away! First, Leo Roman saves the first effort, followed up by three successive blocked hits! Roman has a chuckle to himself that he’s somehow managed to keep all of these shots out! How have Barcelona not scored yet?!?!?!?!
29th min: Chance, Barcelona! GAVI HITS THE POST! He comes charging onto the ball in front of a teammate, and it takes a deflection off a Mallorca defender straight into the woodwork!
On the ensuing corner, it’s taken short and Lamine Yamal’s shot from distance is pushed straight into the path of Ferran Torres at the far post…BUT HE PUTS IT WIDE! The whole goal was gaping with the goalkeeper on the ground!
26th min: Chance, Barcelona! AN ABSOLUTELY WORLD CLASS SAVE BY LEO ROMAN! Dani Olmo receives the ball from the right and flicks it on target as he makes a scything run to the near post, but somehow, incredibly, the Mallorca goalkeeper gets his arm out to stop the flick from point-blank range!
That’s an utterly STUNNING save! Unreal!
25th min: Samu Costa is the first player booked as he bundles Gavi over from behind and gets a talking to from the official, to which he responds with words of his own.
19th min: Chance, Mallorca! Another very quick move sees Mallorca get forward in a hurry, and with good numbers too, but the delivery into the six-yard box is once again parried away by a diving Wojciech Szczesny who has been alert to these crosses so far. Ronaldo Araujo and Inigo Martinez have words with each other as they have not communicated well so far.
12th min: Chance, Barcelona! A double save by Leo Roman keeps both Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal from opening the scoring! First Dani Olmo drags a defender out of position leaving Torres wide open at the top of the penalty area, but he slips as he shoots and Roman can get to it.
The rebound comes to Lamine Yamal at the right post, but Roman recovers in time and keeps the tight-angle follow-up out!
6th min: Chance, Mallorca! Wojciech Szczesny dives to parry away a dangerous cross from the right! A quality move by the visitors who look incisive early!
5th min: Mallorca work a move forward but the ball ends up in the arms of Wojciech Szczesny. He springs the counter down the other end and Barcelona win a corner as a ball floated into the penalty area is clipped out off the head of a defender.
The delivery is right into the arms of the goalkeeper Leo Roman, who is starting for the first time since November.
Kickoff: After a moment of silence in remembrance of Pope Francis, they are under way in Barcelona!
Barcelona vs. Mallorca: Pre-match commentary, analysis, more
15 mins to kickoff: Don’t sleep on Mallorca today! The seaside club sits seventh in the La Liga table and would be thrilled to get a result in this match to help them in their push for a European place. Spain have confirmed to be owners of a fifth Champions League spot next season, so that pushes the other qualifying positions one spot further down the table as well.

30 mins to kickoff: There are some real tactical possibilities in Barcelona’s lineup today. Will Ansu Fati play up on the wing or at left-back? Will Inigo Martinez or Eric Garcia play one of the full-back positions? And where will Hector Fort play, the left or the right? Is it Gavi and Pedri in deeper midfield roles alongside one another? So many questions to be answered at kickoff!
45 mins to kickoff: Barcelona are bidding for their 13 straight unbeaten in league play, which they have not done since 2022 while being managed by Xavi. That would be quite the rubber stamp for a league title if they were to secure such a run today!
1 hour to kickoff: Lineups are in, and there’s a major wrinkle from Hansi Flick as Ansu Fati starts today in a heavily rotated XI. Others in the Barcelona lineup include Hector Fort, Eric Garcia, and Ronald Araujo. The absence of Jules Kounde from the starting XI marks just the fourth time all season that the right-back has not started a league game.

1 hour 15 mins to kick: All eyes will be on Ferran Torres today, as the Spain international looks to take the place of an injured Robert Lewandowski. With Torres likely to be in for Lewandowski in the Copa del Rey final as well, he will want to head into the weekend’s trophy decider in good form.
🎙️ HANSI FLICK: “Ferran Torres is very important. He’s in a good moment in his career…He’s fast and can control the ball.” #BarçaMallorca pic.twitter.com/4gkKA9SldD

1 hour 45 mins to kick: Young Lamine Yamal is just beginning what promises to be a glittering career, but he’s already put together a number of fond memories, including this absolutely outstanding goal against Mallorca last season. He also had two assists in the win over Mallorca earlier this season, so this is already becoming one of his favorite opponents.
2 hours to kickoff: Even though Barcelona’s first-choice goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is back fit from his early-season ACL injury and training with the club, Hansi Flick has repeatedly said he will stick with Wojciech Szczesny, who came out of retirement to take over this season.
Keeping Szczesny in net for the Champions League is a no-brainer as Barcelona would have to remove Szczesny from the roster entirely to add ter Stegen, something which Flick feels would be disrespectful to the Polish star who joined mid-season.
The Barcelona boss could have been convinced to bring ter Stegen back for La Liga play, but according to Spanish publication Sport, Flick decided instead to keep Szczesny in place for all competitions so he doesn’t end up losing form in the middle of a platoon.
🚨 | There is no debate, Szczesny will play the rest of the season, Ter Stegen will not. [@sport] pic.twitter.com/4A16QVjQYv

Barcelona vs. Mallorca lineups, team news
A thigh injury for Robert Lewandowski will keep the league’s leading scorer sidelined for around three weeks, meaning he will miss all the important matches on the horizon. He will be targeting a return for the Clasico meeting with Real Madrid in league play on May 11, but even that seems like a race against time.
Ferran Torres has played extremely well this season when needed to give Lewandowski a rest, and now he will get a chance to play a starring role. His inclusion is likely, but he may not be the only one to come in as Hansi Flick decided to rotate more heavily around the XI.
Barcelona are also without Alex Balde at left-back for a little while longer, leaving Flick to pick out Ansu Fati for a spot start in that position rather than deploy natural backup Gerard Martin. The boss then chose between Dani Olmo to play the No. 10, while Gavi also comes in to spell Raphinha out wide. Ronald Araujo gets another chance to turn around his poor defensive form, while Hector Fort gives Jules Kounde a rare rest at right-back.
Barcelona starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Szczesny (GK) — E. Garcia, Araujo, I. Martinez, Fort — Pedri, Gavi — Lamine Yamal, Olmo, Fati — F. Torres.
Barcelona subs: Pena (GK), Kochen (GK), Cubarsi, Christensen, Kounde, Martin, de Jong, Torre, F. Lopez, Victor.
Mallorca will be without both Daniel Rodriguez and Pablo Maffeo, who picked up bookings in their scoreless draw with Leganes which triggered an accumulation suspension.
If he misses out, he’d join confirmed absentees Vedat Muriqi, Takuma Asano, and Manu Morales on the sidelines, while Robert Navarro is also a doubt.
All this means boss Jagoba Arraste will need to make a number of alterations, with Mateu Morey to come in at right-back while Johan Mojica manages to pass fit for a start on the left.
Mallorca starting lineup (5-4-1): Roman (GK) — Morey, Valjent, Raillo, Copete, Mojica — A. Sanchez, Mascarell, Samu, Darder — Larin.
Mallorca subs: Greif (GK), Cuellar (GK), Lato, Abdon, Valery, Chiquinho, D. Lopez, Domenech, Salas.
