Yesterday, there were reports about a meeting between Barcelona and Mallorca over the potential transfer of three players.
After another round of talks today, the clubs have come to an agreement for at least one of those players discussed yesterday.
The name expected to head to Mallorca is the winger who lit up the Maracana on fire with his performances against Flamengo’s U20s in Jan Virgili.
Jan Virgili To Mallorca
Jan Virgili is a winger who has been with Barca’s youth team for only a year now but has continued to prove his quality. Barcelona have noticed his abilities too as they started to see him as someone too good for the youth team but not yet ready for the first team.
This put his future in question as he also did not want to play another season of lower level football and was ready to play in the first division.
In the end, Barcelona have found the solution for his future as they’ve agreed to sell the winger for a fee over 3 millions euros according to Sport.
They will also still have control over the youngster’s future as they will retain 50% of his rights for a future sale and will have a 3.5 million euro buy back clause.
Virgili will sign a five year deal with Mallorca giving him a long-term contract with the club.
This seems like a solid deal for both parties as Mallorca adds a talented player to their ranks and will help them keep their midtable status.
As for Barcelona, they sell a player they didn’t think was ready for the team yet and get to let him develop while still controlling his future.
With getting this deal over the line, we will see if Barcelona and Mallorca manage to complete any of the other two deals they have been in talks for.
