The Catalan side was helped by Fermin Lopez, Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, who each scored twice in a ruthless attacking display from Hansi Flick’s men.
However the spotlight turned to Pedri who wore the captain’s armband and dictated the entire game from midfield.
The 22-year-old covered every blade of grass, recycling possession, pressing hard and ensuring Barcelona controlled the game throughout.
The Tegueste born midfielder’s influence was acknowledged by supporters who gave a standing ovation when he was substituted by Marc Bernal after 81 minutes.
Raphinha began on the bench after a late arrival but struck twice after being introduced in the second half.
According to WhoScored, Pedri earned a 7.83 rating with 93 percent pass accuracy, two dribbles, , two tackles and attempted one shot and just lost possession once.

The Spanish international didn’t forget to pay tribute to Barcelona legend and three time Ballon d’Or winner Johan Cruyff after the match.
Pedri took to Instagram and wrote, “An honor to enjoy the captaincy again and honour the memory of Cruyff with this great win. Work, team!”
The post resonated with the atmosphere inside the Johan Cruyff Stadium where banners honored the Dutchman’s defining legacy at Barcelona.
Hansi Flick side will now turn their focus to the Champions League where they will face Newcastle United at St James’ Park on September 18.
