While many fans were hoping for an immediate return to the Camp Nou, this seems to be something that may be delayed temporarily.
According to Marca, Barcelona have communicated to the league that they will play their home game against Valencia in the Estadi Johan Cruyff.
The Estadi Johan Cruyff is a 6,000 seat stadium where Barca B and Barcelona Femeni play.
Estadi Johan Cruyff
The Estadi Johan Cruyff is expected to only be used for one home game this season against Valencia as the Camp Nou isn’t quite ready yet.
It’s interesting they have made this decision as the first Champions League game this season will be just 2-4 days after the fixture against Valencia which could get complicated if Barcelona draw their first game at home.
We will see if this issue ends up rising but for now it’s all but official that Barcelona will play at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.
La Liga officials were seen at the stadium as they were making sure that the field quality and the whole infrastructure were up to standard. They also came to install VAR technology to make sure it’s up and running for the game against Valencia.
The stadium fails to meet the minimum amount of stadium capacity but La Liga are allowed to make exceptions if certain situations arise and it seems like La Liga are willing to make an exception.
This news may be disappointing to hear for fans of the club, but as stated before this seems to be a very temporary thing for a one time situation.
