Barcelona make surprise transfer call over Spain international

Barcelona appear ready to make a big move in the transfer market.

Reports (via Fichajes) suggest the club is willing to sell Dani Olmo this summer, just a year after bringing him back to Camp Nou from RB Leipzig.

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be leading the chase for the Spain international, with interest also coming from Saudi Arabia.

Olmo played 39 times for Barca last season, scoring 12 goals and setting up seven more. He signed a long-term deal until 2030 and was expected to play a major role under Hansi Flick.

But things have changed quickly. The new season could now start without him in the squad.

Why Barcelona could sell Dani Olmo?

Fitness concerns are a big part of the story. Flick is reportedly frustrated with Olmo’s repeated injury issues.

Meanwhile, Fermin Lopez has impressed much in preseason that he may start ahead of Olmo.

Add to that a stacked attack — with Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, and new arrival Marcus Rashford — and the Spanish midfielder finds himself well down the pecking order.

Barcelona also apparently need funds. Selling Olmo could bring in around €60 million (£52m), which would help balance the books and create space for future signings.

A move to the Premier League is said to be his preferred option, though a lucrative Saudi offer is on the table.

For Tottenham, the timing is interesting. James Maddison is out long-term with a knee injury, leaving Spurs in search of a creative spark.

Olmo wasn’t initially on their radar, but the sudden opening could see them make a move before the window closes.

Olmo’s future now hangs in the balance. Barcelona risk losing a gifted playmaker, but in football, sometimes the best pass is the one that sets you free.
