Barcelona have suffered a significant setback as young midfielder Marc Casado has been diagnosed with a knee ligament injury.
The Spanish international could be sidelined for up to two months, putting his season in jeopardy.
The injury was sustained during Barcelona’s recent clash against Atletico Madrid. Casado collided with Antoine Griezmann in the first half but continued playing until he was substituted in the 67th minute for Frenkie de Jong.
Following medical examinations, Barcelona confirmed that the 20-year-old had suffered a ligament injury in his right knee.

When can Marc Casado make his Barcelona return
Casado has been a key figure in Barcelona’s midfield this season. After making his La Liga debut under Xavi in March 2024, he became a first-team regular under Hansi Flick.
The young midfielder has made 36 appearances in all competitions, scoring once and providing six assists. His partnership with Pedri has been crucial to Barcelona’s midfield stability.
The injury has also ruled Casado out of Spain’s upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against the Netherlands.
Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente was forced to replace him with Bayer Leverkusen’s Aleix Garcia. In addition, Barcelona defender Inigo Martinez has also withdrawn from the national squad due to a knee injury.
Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen received his first senior call-up as Martinez’s replacement. Barcelona’s medical team is set to conduct further tests to determine the full extent of Casadó’s injury.

If his recovery timeline extends beyond the expected two months, he could miss the remainder of the season, dealing a massive blow to Barcelona’s midfield options.
With crucial league and European fixtures ahead, Barcelona will now rely heavily on their remaining midfielders to step up in Casadó’s absence.
