Barcelona finalizing key defender’s contract renewal before transfer window closes

Barcelona are looking good with their contract renewal plan led by sporting director Deco as players like Pedri, Gavi, Raphinha and Lamine Yamal have all signed new contracts.

Apart from them, Jules Kounde has recently signed an extension with Frenkie De Jong also in line to put pen to paper to extend his stay at Camp Nou.

Which leaves only Spain international Eric Garcia, who has grown into an important player for Hansi Flick’s outfit. However, his current contract expires in 2026.

According to reports via SPORT, Barcelona are looking to renew Garcia’s contract before the summer transfer window closes.

The Blaugrana are reportedly willing to offer a contract until 2030 as Flick values the 24-year-old’s versatility and experience, making him an essential player for the club.

Talks between Barcelona and the Garcia’s representatives have advanced significantly with Flick playing a major role.

He has earned the manager’s trust, so much so that he started for Barcelona in their league opener against Mallorca ahead of Kounde.

Eric Garcia has experienced epic transformation at Barcelona

The former Manchester City star’s future at Camp Nou was uncertain as he was loaned out to Girona last season. He contemplated making a permanent switch to the Red and Whites but eventually his situation at Barcelona transformed at the turn of the year.

Garcia has now become an important figure at Barcelona especially with the departure of Inigo Martinez.

At this point, the Catalans are slightly short on centre back options with Pau Cubarsi and Ronald Araujo being the first-choice options, but Garcia is also ready to fight for minutes at centre-back and full-back positions.

The versatile defender is also eager to stay at Camp Nou, and his renewal talks should be much straightforward in comparison to De Jong’s extension.

There’s a lot of optimism that the deal will be closed before the summer transfer window shuts with slightly more than a week left.
