Barcelona eye potential Montjuic return

According to Marca, Barcelona may have to head back to the Montjuic as they still face troubles with the legal permits of the renovated Camp Nou.

They waved goodbye to the Olympic stadium at the end of last season, but that may now seem premature as Barca may be forced to go back.

Barcelona are waiting for permits and licensing approvals that are yet to come and have had to seek alternatives which make a Montjuic return the best option.

Montjuic Return

Barcelona are waiting for permits as mentioned before, but there’s a deadline set by UEFA for the 28th of August to submit which stadium they will play the league phase in.

Technically Barcelona could still play league games in the Camp Nou and Champions League in the Montjuic, but that seems redundant so Barcelona have to meet the UEFA deadline if they plan a Camp Nou return this year.

Barcelona would be able to try again in January when the Champions League group stage ends which should be enough time for Barcelona to sort everything out.

The problem is that Barcelona makes more revenue playing in the Camp Nou and would face a clash with a concert for the first home game of the season.

What Will Barca Do?

Barcelona will continue to push to get the permits and licensing through on time to meet the UEFA deadline as the club is desperate to get back to the Camp Nou.

Barcelona may manage to resolve these issues, but the fact that the deadline is so close and the club is already looking at Montjuic it’s tough to believe that they will get it done.

The Montjuic seems like it will be back in use at least for Champions League games as with Barca, they may just be ambitious enough to use two stadiums.
