Barcelona eye Brazilian talent | Sporting News

It is no secret that Barcelona’s current weakness is their centre backs and their centre back depth.

After the sale of Iñigo Martinez to Al Nassr, Barcelona only have three out and out centre backs on the books.

It seems like Barcelona are aware of this need and are eyeing up a young Brazilian talent.

Luiz Benedetti

Luiz Benedetti is the name that Sport is reporting that Barcelona are heavily interested in. The Brazilian centre back is physically gifted with his 6 ‘5 frame, great in the air, left footed, and is decent with the ball.

The 19-year-old Palmeiras defender has caught the eye of Barcelona but also the eye of Arsenal and Napoli. He also has an additional advantage of having an Italian passport which would mean he won’t take up a non EU spot.

It’s no surprise that another Palmeiras player has caught the eye of European teams as they’ve had success selling Endrick, Estevao Willian, and Vitor Reis.

Timing Issues

Barcelona are interested but it’s likely other teams will try to join the race as Arsenal and Napoli have.

Those clubs can afford to buy the player sooner than Barcelona as Barca are still dealing with registration issues.

Maybe Barcelona would be able to register him as a second team player but it seems likely other teams will offer him first team deals and pay whatever price Palmeiras sets.

Barcelona will likely keep tabs on the player but it seems like it may be a case of right player but wrong time.
