What Barcelona director Deco said on Lamine Yamal contract situation
In a chat with ESPN, Deco shared his belief that the young winger’s extension is only a matter of time. He spoke not like a worried executive, but like a proud parent watching his kid shine.
“Players have to be happy where they are, and I can’t see Lamine at a better place than here,” Deco said. “He’s from the academy, he grew up here… If I were him, I’d want to be here.”
Barcelona are building a new era around their youth, and Yamal is front and center. But Deco also admitted the team needs more options up front to avoid relying too heavily on the 17-year-old and Raphinha.
“We might need players with similar characteristics, so we’re not so dependent when they’re unavailable,” he added.
