Barcelona director Deco provides new update on Lamine Yamal contract situation

Barcelona may be going through a rebuild, but they’re holding on tight to the crown jewels. And there’s no gem shinier right now than Lamine Yamal.

The teenage sensation, who’s not even 18 yet, has already played 100 games for club and country.

He’s dazzled fans, worried defenders, and put La Masia back in the spotlight. Now, with the summer transfer window approaching, all eyes are on his future.

Yamal’s current deal runs until June 2026, but Barcelona want to lock things down early. And according to sporting director Deco, fans can breathe easy.

“There will be no problems for Lamine Yamal’s new contract,” he said.

What Barcelona director Deco said on Lamine Yamal contract situation

In a chat with ESPN, Deco shared his belief that the young winger’s extension is only a matter of time. He spoke not like a worried executive, but like a proud parent watching his kid shine.

“Players have to be happy where they are, and I can’t see Lamine at a better place than here,” Deco said. “He’s from the academy, he grew up here… If I were him, I’d want to be here.”

Barcelona are building a new era around their youth, and Yamal is front and center. But Deco also admitted the team needs more options up front to avoid relying too heavily on the 17-year-old and Raphinha.

“We might need players with similar characteristics, so we’re not so dependent when they’re unavailable,” he added.

Despite plans for new signings, Deco made it clear that retaining core players like Yamal is the top priority.

“I don’t think any player is looking to leave. Our focus is on keeping the squad together and finalizing the remaining renewals,” he said.

The message from Deco is simple: Barcelona want Yamal to stay, and Yamal wants to stay. No drama. No panic. Just business — and a little bit of Barca DNA.
