Shea Langeliers has a wonderful baseball name.
And on Tuesday night, he played one of the best games by a catcher in MLB history.
The Athletics’ right-handed slugger led off for the first time in his career, and it worked.
He blasted three home runs and added a double and a single for good measure.
The three homers were the most ever by a player in his first game batting leadoff, according to MLB Network’s Sarah Langs.

He’s also the third catcher ever to have 15 total bases in a game, and the first since 1950.

Langeliers has been a good ballplayer for a while now for the A’s, which admittedly is not a particularly spotlight-rich spot.
But this was the best baseball night of his life.

He hit his three homers early enough that the announcers started to discuss whether a team has ever had two players hit four homers in a game in the same year. No, that hasn’t happened, and it still hasn’t as Langeliers couldn’t quite join Nick Kurtz.
Langeliers capped his night with the double, but it wasn’t the nearly-a-homer kind. He just tucked a hard shot inside the left field line to get two bases.
That didn’t damper the mood much, even though Langeliers couldn’t reach the biggest kind of history.
Five hits, including three home runs, is still quite the night at the office.
