The Houston Astros have added Ramon Urias to the team at the trade deadline so far in 2025, and with a potential to add a left-handed hitter still on the table, there are a few interesting options the Astros are considering.
But a new report from Jon Morosi of MLB Network revealed that the Astros are a team to monitor in the sweepstakes for Cleveland Guardians left fielder Steven Kwan.
“The Astros are one team to watch on Steven Kwan.” Morosi reports, “Houston has had 3 different starting left fielders in the last 3 games.”

One of the pressing issues on the roster has been the inconsistency in the outfield, specifically in left field. With Jake Meyers locking down center field and Cam Smith in right field, the team’s left field spot is wide open.
Jose Altuve has gotten some runs in left, but the ideal scenario would have Altuve stick to either second base or left field instead of bouncing between the two. To do that, the Astros need to swing a trade for an outfielder or second baseman.

If they made a deal for Kwan, it’d cost a lot, which Houston might not have. But, Morosi reports that the Astros are a team to watch amid those trade talks, and could be one of the landing spots for the Guardians’ two-time All-Star outfielder.
Kwan is under team control through 2027, and at 27 years old, would be an incredible pickup for any team looking to add an outfielder at the deadline. He’s a three-time Gold Glover in left field and is hitting .285 on the season through 102 games.
Houston’s interest in Kwan is something to monitor. While it’s a tough trade for the Astros to work out, landing Kwan would be an immediate upgrade in left field, while adding a much-needed left-handed batter to the lineup.
