The sun came up this morning, and another Houston Astros player has found himself on the injured list.
Wednesday afternoon, the AL West leaders put infielder Luis Guillorme on the 10-day injured list after the second baseman suffered a strain in his right hamstring.
Guillorme, an eight-year veteran of the MLB, joined the Astros earlier in February of this year, spending a majority of his time with Triple-A Sugar Land before being called up to the majors in the middle of last month.
Since debuting in May of 2018, Guillorme spent six seasons with the New York Mets organization before spending sparce periods of time with the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Angels, and Arizona Diamondbacks all over the 2024 season.
Guillorme’s name is on a long list of Astros players on the shelf currently, as star shortstop Jeremy Pena also recently found his way to the list with a broken rib, and slugging designated hitter Yordan Alvarez has been sidelined for most of the 2025 season with a hand fracture, and was recently moved to the 60-day IL after suffering a setback with the injury.
Infielder Zack Short was promoted to from the Triple-A Sugar Land Space Cowboys to fill in Guillorme’s place on the 40-man roster.
In just the past two months, the Astros have loaded six position players on the injured list in the past two months, with the Houston IL now consisting of 14 total players and pitchers combined.
Nevertheless, the two-time World Series champions continue to hold their own at the top of the American League West, leading the Seattle Mariners by a comforting seven games.
