Ahead of the Houston Astros’ second game of a three-game series against the Minnesota Twins, the Astros made multiple roster moves to reshuffle their roster. From moving players to the injured list to calling others up, the Astros made a lot of moves before their game against the Twins.
According to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com on Twitter/X, the Astros have made a couple of roster moves.
Astros placed OF Jacob Melton on the 10-day IL due to a right ankle sprain. The Astros also optioned IF/OF Shay Whitcomb to Triple-A Sugar Land.

Houston is placing outfielder Jacob Melton on the 10-day injured list with a right ankle sprain, and is optioning infielder and outfielder Shay Whitcomb to Triple-A after a disappointing stint in the Majors.
Houston is selecting outfielder Cooper Hummel from Triple-A, and is calling up veteran journeyman Luis Guillorme from Triple-A to the Major League roster. Meanwhile, Spencer Arrighetti was transferred from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list ot make room on the 40-man roster.
While the move with Arrighetti may sound concerning, he wasn’t going to come back before missing 60 games anyway, so his movement is only for opening a spot on the 40-man roster.
The players the Astros won’t have in the Majors, Whitcomb and Melton, had their struggles. Melton injured his ankle against the Twins and will be out for at least the next ten games. Whitcomb, on the other hand, went hitless in his seven at-bats for the Astros. In his MLB career, Whitcomb has only a .188 batting average and a .514 OPS.
Hummel is a primary outfielder, but at 30 years old, hasn’t carved out a spot on multiple teams in his MLB career. The more interesting call-up is Guillorme. Across his seven-year career, he’s been on four different teams, including staying with the Mets for six seasons.
In his career, Guillorme has 221 hits, 42 doubles, five home runs, and a .251 batting average. While nothing special, he brings a veteran presence and versatility in the infield ot the Astros roster.
While neither Guillorme nor Hummel is in the lineup for the Twins game, they will provide decent depth for the Astros, who are dealing with a slew of injuries and poor play from multiple players on their roster in 2025.
