After the Houston Astros’ eventful past couple of days after the MLB trade deadline, they have fallen into an adjustment period that included them getting swept by the Boston Red Sox in a three-game series over the weekend.
Although things are starting to take shape after Houston was able to win dominantly in their series-opener against a red-hot Miami Marlins team on Monday.
It seems that the additions of Carlos Correa, Ramon Urias, and Jesus Sanchez are starting to get a feel for their new team, and the Astros can look to make a run for the division with just two months left in the regular season.
On Tuesday, the Astros released multiple players who were playing for their Triple-A affiliate in Sugar Land.
Houston released the following players on Tuesday: right-handed pitchers Aaron Brown and Ray Gaither, left-handed pitcher Blake Weiman, catcher Bryan Lavastida, and infielder Luis Guillorme, according to Astros beat writer Brian McTaggart.
Luis Guillorme’s release was surprising, as the infielder signed with the Astros on a one-year, $1 million deal and has made appearances for the team in the majors this season.
The transactions were most likely motivated by the multiple roster moves the Astros made in recent days, including optioning left-hander John Rooney, sending infielder Zack Short to Triple-A, and signing infielder Jon Singleton to a minor league deal.
Houston will continue to make moves to maintain its lead in the AL West. The Seattle Mariners sit just three games back, while the Texas Rangers trail by 4.5 games.
