The Houston Astros activated centerfielder Jake Meyers from the injured list on Saturday afternoon, and he will start in centerfield against the Texas Rangers, according to MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart.
In a corresponding move, the Astros optioned outfielder Jacob Melton to Triple-A Sugar Land.
Meyers hasn’t played since July 9, when he jogged out to centerfield to start the game and felt something in his right calf. The Astros centerfielder was placed on the injured list two days later with a right calf strain and has been out since.
Jake Meyers Returns For The Astros
Meyers was having a breakout year for the Astros before his injury. The centerfielder was hitting .308 with a .774 OPS across 289 at-bats. Meyers also had 14 stolen bases, which was already a career-high.

That was his production in the batter’s box, and in the outfield he was just as good, if not, better. Meyers has .995 fielding percentage on the year, with just one error, and six defensive runs saved.
The Astros’ centerfielder’s defense has always been elite, but his offensive production has been a big lift in 2025 for the Astros, and now they’ll get him back.
Meyers was out from July 11 to Aug. 27, when he began his rehab assignment, and now he’ll rejoin the Astros.

Houston also made a couple other moves on Saturday. With Meyers returning, Melton returned to Triple-A Sugar Land, and the Astros also optioned right-handed pitcher Colton Gordon and recalled reliever Logan Van Wey.
Gordon made a spot start for Houston on Friday night, and now the Astros add another bullpen arm for the rest of the weekend.
The Astros and Rangers play the second game of their weekend Lone Star series on Saturday, and Meyers will be starting in centerfield and batting ninth.
