Astros get Yordan Alvarez injury update before series vs. Red Sox

With the MLB season turning to a new month, the Houston Astros will begin August in a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox.

After an action-packed MLB trade deadline that concluded on Friday, Houston will get to have the return of both shortstop Jeremy Pena and Carlos Correa as he transitions into a new position with a new team at third base. Jesus Sanchez will also be making his Astros debut in left field.

Houston will be heading into the game on Friday night with a 4.5-game lead in the AL West. August will be a new month for the Astros with better aspirations after finishing July with a 12-13 record.

All eyes will be on a new lineup for Houston while waiting on the return of multiple players from the injured list. Including designated hitter Yordan Alvarez.

Alvarez, 28, has been rehabbing from surgery to repair a fractured right hand. He’s been out since May 2, and a new update has been released on the three-time All-Star.

Astros beat writer Brian McTaggart took to X on Friday, mentioning that Alvarez is in West Palm Beach, “and is increasing his swings and feeling better, manager Joe Espada said.”

Alvarez is expected to return to the Astros lineup sometime in mid-August, and this new update shows that he hasn’t gone through any setbacks during the recovery.

Before getting placed on the injury list in May, Alvarez was playing through the injury for a significant amount of time. This most likely took a toll on his production. Through the 29 games he’s played this season, he has a .210 batting average, .306 on-base percentage, .340 slugging percentage, and a .646 OPS while hitting three home runs and 18 RBI.
