The Houston Astros have dealt with a lot of injuries this season, especially to their starting lineup. From Jeremy Pena for a while, to Isaac Paredes for the rest of the year, the Astros have seen a few key players hit the injured list.
But one of the most standout players who hit the injured list for the Astros was Yordan Alvarez. He played in 29 games before hitting the injured list with a hand issue, and after suffering a setback in the middle of the summer, he continued to miss time.
However, as Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports, the Astros, for the first time since May and in 100 games, are getting their left-handed slugger back in the lineup.
Yordan Alvarez is Back in Houston
In his first game back up with the Astros, Alvarez is batting fourth and playing in left field. Not only is he back in the heart of the order, but he’s also playing the field right away, a great sign he’s ready to go.

The 28-year-old had missed significant time, but now, after over 100 games since he hit the injured list, he’s getting to return to the Major Leagues. Brice Matthews, the Astros’ top prospect, was optioned to Triple-A to open the roster spot for Alvarez.
Before hitting the injured list, Alvarez had 100 at-bats where he hit .210 with a .646 OPS, the lowest of his career.
He had seven runs scored, 21 hits, four doubles, three home runs, 18 RBIs, one stolen base,16 walks, and 21 strikeouts before he missed the next 100 games.

Now, after a successful rehab stint in Double-A, Alvarez is back with the Astros, hitting in the heart of their revamped lineup with Carlos Correa and Jesus Sanchez.
It’s great timing for the Astros, especially with the Seattle Mariners hot on their tail in the AL West. Sitting 1.5 games ahead of Seattle, the Astros could use all the help they could get, and Alvarez certainly fits that bill.
Houston, for the first time since May 2nd, will see Alvarez in the lineup as they begin a series against the Colorado Rockies.
