Astros get unfortunate update on 28-year-old injured starter amid rehab

The Houston Astros have dealt with a lot of injuries this season, and it’s not just been to one area of the roster. They’ve dealt with issues with the starting rotation all year, along with their lineup. Recently, they even lost Josh Hader for an extended period.

One of the most hit position groups has been the starting rotation. A large portion of the Astros’ MLB starters have been injured at some point this season, and recently, one of those injured starters got an unfortunate update.

According to Chandler Rome of The Athletic, the Astros revealed that injured starter Brandon Walter suffered a setback during his rehab and recovery process.

Walter Shut Down by Astros Amid Rehab

The Astros, amid the news that Walter is dealing with a recurrence of left elbow inflammation, are shutting down the 28-year-old starter for a while.

He’s been on the injured list since his outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 23rd, and now, he will continue to miss time for the Astros.

Walter has been a great starter for the team this season, especially amid the plethora of injuries in the rotation. He has a 3.35 ERA in nine starts for Houston with 52 strikeouts and a 0.93 WHIP in 53.2 innings pitched.

His most recent outings were some of his best, as he went seven innings and allowed one run to the Diamondbacks, along with allowing one run to the Seattle Mariners in six innings of work.

Walter also went six innings and allowed two runs against the hot Cleveland Guardians. While he was on the hook for the loss in the latter two starts, he was still pitching well in the outings he had right before he hit the injured list.

J.P. France, Luis Garcia, and Lance McCullers are all on the injured list. Walters is right there with them. Cristian Javier was recently activated off the IL Spencer Arrighetti isn’t too far removed from being on the IL as well.

The injury luck hasn’t been great, as the Astros have dealt with injuries to a huge chunk of their starting rotation. Walter’s setback is a tough blow for the team, as he was one of the better starters for the Astros in his nine outings this season.
