Astros fan favorite has ‘higher’ trade value than ever before

Another trade deadline is approaching for the Houston Astros, and while they haven’t done as much as they’ve needed to do in recent years, this trade deadline poses more questions than ever before.

The Astros have shown an unwillingness to enter the luxury tax, something owner Jim Crane has been against throughout much of his tenure as the Astros’ owner.

After the decisions the Astros made during the offseason, it’d be a bit surprising to see them change their stance now. However, with another opportunity to compete in the American League, it’ll continue to be a disservice if they don’t attempt to go all in and try to win it.

The Astros could get creative at the trade deadline, with multiple players in the farm system and big league roster who could be dealt. One of them could be Jake Meyers, who the athletic believes has higher trade value than ever before.

“Meyers’ trade value has never been higher. McCormick’s is at its lowest. Parting with either man would be contingent on Melton showing he is worthy of an everyday role — nowhere near a guarantee — and must also come with more additions to a lineup that needs them,” they wrote.

Meyers is a very good player, hitting .300 this season.

He only has 203 at-bats and three home runs, but he’s shown some juice in other parts of his career. The right-handed hitting outfielder is set to hit the free agency market in 2028, meaning teams could view him as a long-term option in the outfield.

If the Astros could address a different need with a player in a different position, it could make sense to move on from the Nebraska native.
