Astros emerge as possible trade destination for Orioles All-Star pitcher

The Houston Astros are one team that will be buyers before the MLB trade deadline on Thursday. They have shown most of their interest in adding offensive help, but Houston could also pursue a trade to add to their pitching staff.

Injuries have been the recent problem for the Astros, with notable players including third baseman Isaac Paredes, outfielder Yordan Alvarez, and pitchers Lance McCullers Jr. and J.P. France currently spending time on Houston’s injured list.

The trade market is opening up, and the Astros have become a possible trade destination for the Baltimore Orioles’ starting pitcher, Trevor Rogers.

Shawn Childs of SI.com proposed a mock trade that has the Astros sending minor league pitchers Miguel Ullola and Ethan Pecko in exchange for the 27-year-old Trevor Rogers.

Ullola, Houston’s No. 4 prospect, has a 3.56 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, and has struck out 96 in 73.1 innings pitched this season in Triple-A Sugar Land. Pecko, Houston’s No. 10 prospect, has a 4.50 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and has struck out 46 in 44 innings in Double-A.

The Astros would add Trevor Rogers, a 2021 All-Star who was traded to the Orioles from the Miami Marlins before last year’s deadline. He started the 2025 season in Triple-A, but made his first start in the majors in late May.

Through eight starts in 2025, Rogers has been nothing less than efficient. He currently has a 4-1 record, 1.49 ERA, 0.79 WHIP, and has 40 strikeouts in 48.1 innings.

Baltimore currently owes Rogers $2.6 million this season, with his last arbitration year being next year. His consistency this season has made him a possible trade candidate for the Astros.
