
The Houston Astros are in the middle of a pivotal series against the Detroit Tigers, and after dropping game one, the Astros are making some changes to the roster.
Houston is cutting ties with a pitcher who went 1.2 innings against the Tigers in the series opener after he allowed five runs in his first outing back with the team.
According to Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle, the Astros are designating for assignment veteran reliever Taylor Scott. Taking his place on the MLB roster is reliever Logan VanWey, who is getting recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land.
Astros Reshuffle Bullpen Amid Tigers Series
After a disappointing game one against the Tigers, the Astros are making a change in the bullpen. They are designating Taylor Scott for assignment, just a day after he pitched for the Astros.

But his outing wasn’t a great one. He went 1.2 innings, allowing five earned runs on five hits, two walks, and two home runs. He struck out one batter as well, in what was his worst outing of the 2025 season.
Scott began the 2025 season with the Astros, where he had a 5.40 ERA in 16.2 innings of work across 17 games. He blew one save, secured two holds, and had a 1-2 record for the Astros in his first stint.
But, he was released and found his way to the Arizona Diamondbacks, before having a 9.00 ERA in six outings, getting released, and eventually re-joining the Astros in July.

This outing against the Tigers was his first MLB action since June, and he struggled, leading to his release from the Astros for the second time this season.
Replacing him is VanWey, a right-handed reliever who, in seven games with the Astros this season, has a 6.23 ERA and five strikeouts, two home runs allowed, and three walks allowed in 8.2 innings pitched.
This roster move from the Astros comes ahead of the second game against the Tigers, with both teams’ aces on the mound, as Tarik Skubal and Hunter Brown are set to face off in a high-profile matchup against the top-two Cy Young candidates i the American League.
