Astros announce encouraging injury update for outfielder Jake Meyers

The Houston Astros have been able to keep their division lead in the AL West despite the Seattle Mariners’ strong push to dethrone them. Houston will look to win their fourth straight series in their series finale against the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.

Houston was able to keep the series alive after a 5-4 extra-inning win against the Orioles on Saturday.

Heading into Sunday’s game, the Astros got multiple injury updates on players who are looking to make their much-needed returns before the postseason in October.

29-year-old outfielder Jake Meyers has been out of the Astros lineup since July 10th after aggravating a calf injury during practice. The injury was considered a right calf strain, and he landed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to July 10.

Back when Meyers was sent to the injured list, general manager Dana Brown mentioned that the outfielder would be out “at the very minimum, three-plus weeks.” Flash forward to Sunday, he’s been out for over a month, but his most recent injury update reveals that his return can be coming sooner rather than later.

In a post that included injury updates to Yordan Alvarez, Isaac Paredes, and Jake Meyers, MLB.com‘s Brian McTaggart said that the outfielder “is close to a rehab assignment.”

Before going down with the injury, Meyers was having the best season of his five-year career. Through 289 at-bats in 2025, Meyers is on pace for career-highs in batting average (.308), on-base percentage (.369), OPS (.774), and WAR (2.7), while also hitting three home runs and 21 RBI.
