Arsenal will be keen to ensure their faded title bid does not result in them finishing outside of the Premier League top two.
Sunday’s visitors to the Emirates Stadium, Newcastle United, are breathing down their necks and Eddie Howe’s side will move above the Gunners into second if they leave north London with three points.
More significantly, a Newcastle win would secure Champions League qualification for next season. A point for Arsenal does likewise.
These teams have played one another three times this season and the Magpies won each fixture without conceding a goal.

Arsenal vs. Newcastle live updates, highlights, and commentary
30 mins before kickoff: It will be interesting to gauge the mood at the Emirates today. They’ve had some unbelievable moments there this term, most notably those thumping and cathartic wins over Manchester City and Real Madrid. However, it would be understandable if the overall sweep of things leaves a tinge of disappointment.
1 hour before kickoff: The big news for Newcastle is that top scorer Alexander Isak misses out with a minor groin injury. It means experienced striker Callum Wilson makes just his second Premier League start of the season.

1 hr 30 mins before kickoff: Arsenal’s focus understandably switched to the Champions League over the past month but they have only won one of their past six Premier League games, and that was against relegated Ipswich. If Mikel Arteta’s side lose to a Newcastle side that has beaten them three times in as many attempts this season, they will slip down to third place.

Arsenal vs. Newcastle lineups, team news
Arsenal will be without Mikel Merino, who must serve a one-game ban after being sent off at Anfield for two yellow cards. Declan Rice has recovered from injury in time to take his place in midfield.
Kai Havertz returns to the matchday squad following his hamstring lay-off, but long-term absentees Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel and Takehiro Tomiyasu are out.
Leandro Trossard came through late tests on a hamstring issue. Jurrien Timber misses out, meaning a start at right-back for Ben White.
Arsenal lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Raya (GK) — White, Saliba, Kiwior, Lewis-Skelly — Odegaard, Partey, Rice — Saka, Trossard, Martinelli
Arsenal subs: Neto (GK), Tierney, Zinchenko, Jorginho, Havertz, Sterling, Calafiori, Henry-Francis, Nwaneri
There were fears that injury-plagued defender Sven Botman would miss the final two matches of Newcastle season but he starts as one of three centre-backs.
Eddie Howe is without Joelinton, Kieran Trippier, Matt Targett and Lewis Hall, so his lineup at the Emirates may have a makeshift look about it.
The Magpies’ 5-4-1 system proved highly effective against Chelsea last week and they appear to have stuck with that formation as they aim for precious points.
Newcastle lineup (5-4-1, right to left): Pope (GK) — Murphy, Schar, Botman, Burn, Livramento — Barnes, Guimaraes, Tonali, Gordon — Wilson
Newcastle subs: Dubravka (GK), Ruddy (GK), Lascelles, Krafth, Osula, Willock, Longstaff, Miley, Neave
