Arsenal to rival Bayern Munich for £42m Premier League winger

Arsenal have finished second in the Premier League 2024/25 standings and this is the third consecutive season that they have finished second in the league standings. Therefore Mikel Arteta is keen to accumulate a team that can challenge champions like Liverpool and Manchester City.

Hence, the North Londoners have shortlisted players from different positions. One area that they desperately need reinforcements is in attack. Apart from a prolific striker, the Gunners are also looking at wingers, who can shoulder the goalscoring burden.

While Arsenal have been interested in Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams and Real Madrid’s Rodrygo Goes. However, as per reports via Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, the Gunners have identified Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma as a potential summer target.

The Japanese international is a player who has also attracted interest from Bayern Munich. The German champions have potentially lost out on Florian Wirtz’s signature and may also lose out Leroy Sane, who is yet to renew his contract.

So Mitoma can be the ideal player in Vincent Kompany’s team. The 28-year-old has been sensational for Brighton with exquisite dribbling and ball carrying skills. He has also netted 10 goals and provided four assists in 36 Premier League appearances this season.

As per reports, Bayern bosses, Max Eberl and Christoph Freund met Mitoma’s representatives and had a good meeting knowning his interest to move to Bavaria if the opportunity comes his way. Brighton have reportedly set a €50 million (£42 million) asking price.

Where will Mitoma end up this summer?

Interestingly, Arsenal and Bayern Munich have similar requirements when it comes to a winger. They looking at similar profiles hence they are after similar players in the transfer market.

However, Arsenal’s interest to secure Rodrygo if he leaves Madrid is well documented. Arteta is a big fan of the Brazilian, who can play anywhere in attack. If they somehow manage to secure that deal then they won’t look at other options and also it will be a statement to the other clubs.

For now, Arsenal and Bayern have shown interest in Mitoma while they are also reportedly linked with AC Milan star player Rafael Leao.

The Rossoneri have recently lowered their asking price for the Portuguese international. So there is a possibility that we may see the two teams lock horns in the transfer market over a single player. However, it depends of the profile that they need and the player they prefer.

Despite all the talk, Mitoma will command a much lower fee than Leao and a team looking to improve on many areas in this transfer market may go for the 28-year-old.

However, it all boils down to Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta, who are carefully weighing their potential targets ahead of a busy summer transfer window.
