Arsenal to rival Barcelona as La Liga star set to decide his future

Arsenal are keen on adding reinforcements in the summer transfer window as they aim to pose a solid title challenge for the Premier League crown next season.

It could be a make-or-break season for Mikel Arteta, and the Spaniard has vowed to take the club to a higher level by winning trophies.

Therefore, he is looking to solidify his roster, and though David Raya won consecutive Golden Glove awards in the Premier League, Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Espanyol custodian Joan Garcia.

The Spain U-21 international has been in sublime form in La Liga this season, and courtesy of his low pricetag, plenty of clubs are interested in him.

As per Spanish outlet, Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have already made a formal offer for the goalkeeper as they desperately need someone between the sticks with Wojciech Szczesny’s future at the club uncertain. They have reportedly offered Garcia a five-year contract.

While fresh reports suggest that the Polish veteran may just sign another contract with the Blaugrana, Joan Garcia could still be in their plans, considering Szczesny’s age and Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s poor form.

Similarly, Arsenal are also looking to sign Garcia to add competition for Raya next season. They have offloaded Aaron Ramsdale to Southampton, while Neto will also return to Bournemouth after his season-long loan deal.

As per reports, the 24-year-old is set to make up his mind on his next destination in the upcoming week.

What did Joan Garcia say about his future?

Espanyol are arch rivals of Barcelona as they both come from the same region in Spain – Catalonia. As a result, fans weren’t sure if Garcia would make a switch to Barcelona. But recently, in an interaction, he dropped a subtle hint, keeping his doors open for Barcelona.

“It would be nice to play against Espanyol. These things can happen”. “I try to look for the positive side of things, and if it happens, I will accept it with enthusiasm”, he told Esport3.

Apart from Arsenal and Barcelona, clubs like Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are all reportedly monitoring the young goalkeeper.

Villa feel he can be the perfect long-term replacement for Emi Martinez, who is reportedly leaving the club.

Garcia has a reported €25 million (£21m) release clause in his contract, and therefore so many clubs are circling in on him to secure his signature.
