It is an open secret that Arsenal are looking to sign a high-profile striker to address their goalscoring woes from the 2024/25 season. Mikel Arteta is determined to bring in attacking reinforcement to challenge for the Premier League title in 2025/26.
Ahead of the summer, a long list of strikers have been identified, including Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres and the Gunners are pushing hard to bring him to North London.
However, reports via Portuguese publication, Correiro da Manha suggest Sporting CP have rejected Arsenal’s opening £59m [$80m] offer for Gyokeres.
The Portugal giants want least £67m [$90m] for the 26-year-old, with Manchester United also in the mix, as Sporting CP expect the fee to rise.
Arsenal Sporting Director Andrea Berta is a big fan of the Sweden international and feels he is the ideal option to come in.
His form in Portugal over the last two years suggests he can solve a key problem at Arsenal, but the early rejection is a setback for Arteta, as the club reassess their position.

Will Arsenal make a second offer for Viktor Gyokeres?
Alongside Gyokeres, Arsenal have also been linked with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko. Arteta is a big admirer of the 22-year-old Slovenian, who has shown signs of greatness this season for the Bundesliga outfit.
Recent reports suggest the North London club have now initiated concrete talks with the 22-year-old open to a switch to England.
While Sesko has only scored 21 goals in comparison to Gyokeres’ 54 goals in 2024/25, the former is also four years younger, and could be better long-term fix for Arsenal.
However, if Arsenal want to win trophies right now, Gyokeres is ideally their man who can hammer in goals right away, whereas Sesko may need a couple of years to adapt and develop into an elite striker.
Arsenal are ready to return with another offer for Gyokeres with Sesko the current back up choice.
